The ICC World Cup 2019
The ICC Cricket World Cup's 12th edition is currently underway in England and Wales. The cricket world cup is geared up for major upsets, especially after Bangladesh beat South Africa by 21 runs in Match 5 on June 2. In another major outcome, in Match 2 West Indies bowled out Pakistan for just 105 runs, their second lowest total in all editions of the cricket world cup.The tournament opener was won by hosts England, as they beat South Africa by 104 runs.
This time in the world cup, ten teams are competing including England, India, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. While, the reigning World Cup champions Australia will be looking to defend their title this year, having won it for a record five times, two-time champions India are also one of the title favourites. India will begin its World Cup campaign against South Africa at Southampton on June 5.
There would be 48 matches in total in the World Cup, of which 45 will be in the group stage. Each of the ten teams would be playing nine group stage matches, among which, the top four will progress to the semi-finals.The much-awaited India vs Pakistan match will be held on June 16 at Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli and fast-bowler Jasprit Bumrah lead their respective ICC player rankings, ahead of ICC World Cup 2019.
The Cricket World Cup, held every four years, will see participation from teams of 10 nations - England (hosts), New Zealand, South Africa, Australia, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and West Indies.
